The story started from the moving day of a family!
Together with parent, Robert, Anthea, Cyril, Jane and their baby brother Hilary, known as the Lamb, moved from London to their new house in the countryside for summer vacation.

One day when the children were playing on the sand, they uncovered a rather grumpy, ugly and occasionally malevolent Psammead who called itself as sand-fairy, who had the ability to realize children’s wishes.

The sand-fairy had limited power that it could only grant one wish a day and the power would fade at sunset. Then, the children made a wish each day, however, the realization of their wishes also put them in bad situations sometime!
